The victim told officials the boy entered their Kia Soul through a broken window and rummaged through the vehicle. After he got out of the car, the teen jumped on the roof, damaging it.

Nearby surveillance footage at a Wawa gas station, located at 12984 Cortez Boulevard, showed the boy running away from the Chili’s parking lot.

The sheriff’s office’s aviation unit was able to locate the boy hiding in a wooded area south of Cortez Boulevard, just west of Mariner Boulevard.

The teen was then arrested and taken to the Hernando County Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of burglary of a conveyance. He has since been released to a grandparent.

The boy was found to have committed another vehicle burglary in the Vitality Senior Living parking lot, located at 7030 Evergreen Woods Trail in Spring Hill. However, officials did not reveal when this crime was committed.
