Teachers in Montrose get raise

MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — Montrose County School District reached an agreement with the Uncompahgre Education Association to bring salary and benefit changes.

The salary increase is historic, the average increase of 12.6% to salaries districtwide cost the district $6 million.

Superintendent of Montrose County School District Dr. Carrie Stephenson tells WesternSlopeNow the raise will help teachers provide a better education to students.

“We really know that investing in our teachers and staff… it’s a direct investment in quality education. We also know that higher salaries help attract and retain the top talent that we need. Which directly contributes to better learning outcomes for our students and that’s what we’re after.”

Stephenson called the raise in salary a priority, saying the district has been working for this over the past three years.

Montrose County School District has over 6,000 students and around 350 teachers.
