Police: Extensive debris clean-up required after I-81 crash in Bristol

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Extensive clean-up was required after a crash on Interstate 81 North in Bristol, Tennessee Wednesday morning.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) SmartWay Traffic Map, the crash was reported around 11:22 a.m. at mile marker 75 near Bristol.

TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi stated in a social media post that the crash in the northbound lanes involved multiple commercial vehicles, and steel coils were in the roadway shortly before 11:30 a.m.

According to Sergeant Adam Dye of the Bristol Tennessee Police Department, minor injuries were reported in the crash. One driver was trapped, but the Bristol Fire Department was able to extricate him from his vehicle.

Dye told News Channel 11 that debris from the two vehicles covered two of the three lanes on the interstate, requiring extensive clean-up with TDOT’s assistance.

As of 2:30 p.m. traffic was moving without much difficulty through the area.
