St. Louis considers using Rams settlement money on water infrastructure
ST. LOUIS — The Board of Alderman will discuss using Rams settlement money to pay for improving water infrastructure. Officials attribute frequent water main breaks to the city’s aging infrastructure. A significant break recently occurred at the intersection of Blair Avenue and Penrose Street in North St. Louis, flooding the area for days.
The city is considering how to use the $790 million settlement after the Rams’ controversial relocation. Of that settlement, around $250 million has been placed in an interest-bearing account.
Today, the city’s board will discuss potentially using some of these funds for crucial improvements to the water infrastructure. This decision is backed by strong community support. During a phase of community engagement, residents voted on how the settlement money should be spent. Out of twenty proposals, replacing water mains was a top priority, receiving nearly 10,000 votes, indicating widespread public support for this initiative.
