Special detective resigns in Union County
Apr. 23—LEWISBURG — Union County is without a special county detective following Tuesday's public meeting.
Union County Commissioners Preston Boop, Jeff Reber and Stacy Richards approved a letter of resignation from Sheriff Deputy Christian J. Wachter, who was also working as the county detective in the district attorney's office since January.
Sheriff Ernie Ritter said Wachter took a position with the Milton Borough Police Department. The position will be advertised and filled, but Ritter did not have a timeline.
The special county detective was appointed to conduct criminal investigations, drug enforcement operations and other duties as authorized. The detective focused investigations on the jail, delivery of subpoenas for the DA and applying for search warrants.
Wachter has been a deputy sheriff for at least two years. He completed Act 120 certification training for law enforcement and received two awards coming out of the police academy, Ritter previously said.
The commissioners also approved $274,412 in leftover funds from the state Department of Community and Economic Development's Community Development Block Grants to be reassigned to Lewisburg's Limestone Run Flood Resiliency project and Mifflinburg Woodland Estates Sewer project. The Limestone Run project received $174,412 from 2022 and 2021 and the Woodland project received $100,000 from 2021 and 2022.
In other business, the salary board approved the hiring the following: Joseph Livoti as the geospatial information and technology director at a salary of $85,000; Dylan Stroup as a part-time correctional officer at a salary of $17.88 an hour; and Susan Reese as part-time geospatial information and technology director support at $48.25 an hour. Patricia Arbogast's pay was also increased to $21.23 an hour for the completion of the Nutrient Manager Certification.
The commissioners also accepted a letter of resignation from Beatrice Cartagena as an administrative assistant for the county probation office.
