Solomon Peña facing new federal charges

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Solomon Peña, the suspected mastermind behind the shootings at four politician’s homes from late 2022 to early 2023, is now facing more charges. Now, he’s accused of trying to order a hit on witnesses in his case. A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment against the former state House candidate.

Peña lost his Republican bid for state House of Representatives by a landslide in 2022. A couple of months later, he was arrested, accused of orchestrating the shootings at the home of two Bernalillo County Commissioners and two state lawmakers, all of whom are Democrats. No one was hit.

Two conspirators, father and son Demetrio and Jose Trujillo, have already pled guilty for their roles.

Now, the feds have added a handful of new charges including three counts of solicitation to commit a crime of violence. The indictment says that between June and September, Peña tried to get two other people to kill two witnesses expected to testify against him. If convicted, Peña faces up to life in prison.
