Sherwood Christian Academy announces valedictorian, salutatorian

ALBANY — Sherwood Christian Academy officials have announced that Hannah Albano and Mary Grace Piper are the school's valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the class of 2024.

Albano graduates with honors and plans to attend Belhaven University. She said she plans to major in Musical Theater and History and has received a scholarship for full tuition. Some of her achievements include being an honor graduate, headmaster scholar, and a member of the National Honor Society.

She was named “Best Actor” at GAPPS One Act State Competition in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, she won first place in duo interpretation at GAPPS Literary State Competition. She was a member of SCA’s Mock Trial team for two years and won “Best Witness” at region, district, and state-level competitions.

Albano was awarded the Georgia Certificate of Merit and was named a STAR Student. She earned a varsity letter for volleyball, basketball, tennis (All-Region), and cross country. She was awarded first place at ATC Studios Young Playwrights Competition. She served as class chaplain in student government for four years. The daughter of the Rev. John and Lynn Albano of Albany, Hannah has attended SCA for eight years and is a member of Northgate Presbyterian Church.

Piper graduates with honors and said she plans to attend Georgia College & State University with a scholarship for full tuition, with plans to major in Political Science and attend law school. Some of her achievements include being an honor graduate, a headmaster scholar, and a member of the National Honor Society. She participated in One Act play three years with back-to-back state championships.

Piper placed first in Rhetorical Writing at GAPPS Literary State Competition in 2023. She was a member of the Mock Trial team for two years, and the team won first-place at the region and district level. She earned a varsity letter in basketball and volleyball and served as Student Council class vice president in 10th and 11th grades and Student Body President her senior year. The daughter of Ms. Ginger Piper of Albany, Mary Grace has attended SCA for four years and is a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.

Sherwood Christian Academy will hold its 35th commencement exercises for the Class of 2024 at Sherwood Baptist Church on Friday at 7 p.m. The Rev. Garrett Grubbs, senior pastor of Crossroads Baptist Church of Valdosta, will deliver the commencement address to the graduates.
