Several departments respond to Chemung County fire

UPDATE (4/26): The Chemung Fire Department has provided an update on the fire that took place last night in Chemung via its Facebook page.

Chemung Fire was the first to be called out for the report of a heavy fire on the structure. Due to dry conditions, this fire quickly turned into a woods fire as well.

As the fire got worse, several more departments arrived at the scene to provide mutual aid.

Crew that responded to the fire include the following Wellsburg, Southport, Horseheads, Big Flats, Baldwin, Elmira Heights, East Hill, Pine City, Webbs Mills, Town and Country, Breesport, Van Etten, Erin-Brush, Waverly/Barton, Great Valley EMS, Lockwood, Athens Boro, Athens Township, Ridgebury, Ulster, South Waverly, Bradford County Rehab, Ridgebury EMS and Guthrie Rehab.

The fire department says that the last truck tending to the fire returned at around 12:43 a.m.

CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WETM) — Several departments in New York and Pennsylvania responded to a structure and brush fire Thursday evening as smoke billowed into the sky.

According to an 18 News reporter at the scene, around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, heavy smoke was seen coming from a residence on Neason Road in the Town of Chemung.

Road work planned for Riverside Drive following Tuesday morning’s fatal crash

Numerous tanker trucks and fire crews could be seen blocking several roads up to the structure somewhere along Neason Road.
