Scientists discover new dinosaur in Argentina

STORY: Paleontologists in Argentina have announced a new

herbivorous dinosaur that lived over 90 million years ago

Location: Rio Negro, Argentina

It's been named Chakisaurus nekul with words from

the indigenous Aonikenk and Mapudungun languages

which reference the dinosaurs' ability to run fast

(Rodrigo Alvarez, Scientist)

"This new species, Chakisaurus nekul, was a bipedal herbivore that had, among its most important features, a tail that, unlike other dinosaurs that had a horizontal tail, had a downward curvature, which is something very new for these animals. It is also known to have been a good runner, something it needed because it lived with a large number of predators and its only defense was to be faster than them".

The Chakisaurus was discovered on a 2018 trip

in the fossil rich Pubelo Blanco Nature Reserve
