Should Sandra Doorley resign? Activists call for her removal

Community activists will host a virtual town hall Monday night to keep pressure on accountability efforts after Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley was caught on video evading police during a traffic stop last month.

Body-worn camera footage showed Doorley ignored a Webster police officer's lights and sirens while speeding down Phillips Road. Instead, Doorley continued to her nearby home, where she called the police chief and berated the officer, attempting to wield her position as district attorney to end the traffic stop.

Doorley has since apologized for the incident. She was fined $183 for traveling 55 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The incident is being investigated by the Monroe County Office of Public Integrity and the state's Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct.

Several activists and lawmakers are calling for Doorley's resignation. Monday night's forum, held by Save Rochester, will be the second in two weeks to discuss steps toward Doorley's removal.

The 7:30 p.m. virtual town hall is open to the public. You can join the Zoom meeting at this link. If prompted, the password for the meeting is SAVEroc585. Find more information at saverochester.org.
