Route 66 black license plate available in Missouri

JOPLIN, Mo. — Route 66 fans in Missouri now have a new specialty license plate that celebrates the “Main Street of America.”

Over the last two years, volunteers with the Route 66 Association of Missouri worked with the state’s Department of Revenue and the Department of Motor Vehicles to roll out this new speciality license place.

“Our mission is to promote and preserve anything having to do with Route 66 — not just in Missouri, but in any of the other seven states that Route 66 passes through,” said Richard Dinkela, President of the Route 66 Association of Missouri.

The new, speciality plate isn’t just unique because of it’s Route 66 themed design — it’s also the only black license plate available in the Show-Me State.

“Route 66 is a highly romanticized highway. It’s the most popular highway in the world. People come from all over the globe to visit and travel Route 66. I think the license plate tells the story of the Mother Road throughout the evolution of the United States — how we evolved and how we came to be what we are today,” said Dinkela.

Dinkela says the specialized license plate is available exclusively through the Route 66 Association of Missouri. A portion of the sales go to support the Route 66 Association.

“By purchasing this exclusive black license plate, you are not just elevating your driving experience, you’re playing a pivotal role in supporting and preserving the legacy of the world-renowned Route 66. This is not just a plate — it’s a masterpiece, a blend of style, elegance, and a dash of audacity that’s bound to make every journey an experience and every destination a spectacle,” said Dinkela.
