River Action to "Roll Out The Rain Barrels!" on Earth Day

Apr. 17—On Earth Day, April 22, River Action will roll out 400 rain barrels to commemorate its four decades of commitment to environmental, economic, and cultural sustainability.

The "River Action Rolls Out The Rain Barrels" event will kick off at 8 a.m. at 1235 W 5th Street, Davenport.

River Action is an environmental organization dedicated to fostering the vitality of the Mississippi River and its riverfront in the Quad-City region.

Rain barrels play a crucial role in preserving our natural resources and mitigating the impact of stormwater runoff, according to a news release form River Action. Each gallon of rainwater collected helps keep rivers and streams clear while reducing flood risks and conserving water. River Action, in collaboration with its sponsors, has procured 400 rain barrels to distribute to individuals and organizations in need within the community.

Once the 400 rain barrels have found a home, River Action will have distributed more than 6,000 rain barrels into the community as part of the "Retain the Rain" program.

This round of rain barrels will be distributed to community gardens and organizations.
