‘Retain the Rain’ with River Action rain barrels

River Action is marking 40 years of taking care of the environment by rolling out hundreds of barrels for its annual “Roll Out the Rain Barrels” event.

Rain barrels are vital in preserving natural resources and limiting the impact of stormwater runoff. Collecting rainwater in barrels keeps rivers and streams clear, reduces the risk of floods and conserves water. This year, River Action has 400 rain barrels to distribute to individuals and organizations in need within the community. Counting these barrels, the group has distributed over 6,000 rain barrels as part of the “Retain the Rain” program. These rain barrels will be given to community gardens and organizations, such as Rock Island Community Gardens, The Floreciente Neighborhood, Habitat for Humanity and Tapestry Farms.

Call River Action at (563) 322-2969 or email raprograms@riveraction.org with questions about rain barrel distribution. River Action is located at 822 E. River Drive in Davenport.
