Former President Donald Trump has secured 43 Oklahoma delegates to the Republican National Convention, easily topping his main GOP rival Nikki Haley on Super Tuesday.

For the Democrats, President Joe Biden won Oklahoma's primary as he continued to rack up delegates to secure his party's nomination for the Nov. 5 general election.

With nearly all precincts counted, Trump earned over 80% of the Republican vote in Oklahoma. Haley came in second with just over 15%.

Democrats and unaffiliated voters allowed to participate in their primary weren't as enthusiastic about the incumbent Biden, who secured just over 70% of the vote. Author Marianne Williamson and Congressman Dean Phillips each received about 9%.

Libertarian voters picked Chase Oliver to be the party's nominee over Jacob Hornberger.

As a winner-take-all state, all of Oklahoma's partisan delegates are allocated to the winners. President Joe Biden is the clear front-runner to secure the Democratic nomination, while former President Donald Trump enjoys a comfortable lead over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the assignment of delegates.

Norman-OG&E agreement fails

Norman voters narrowly rejected an exclusive franchise proposal between the city and OG&E.

By just 33 votes out of 17,795 cast, Normanites decided against approving the franchise agreement. The ordinance would have given OG&E the exclusive right to construct, maintain and operate electric infrastructure within city limits for the next 25 years.

This is the second time that the city of Norman has asked voters to approve the long-term agreement. The earlier vote on a nearly identical ordinance took place in January 2023, but less than 40% supported the franchise agreement at that time.

The last franchise agreement expired in 2018, but OG&E has continued providing service for Norman residents under a month-to-month agreement.

Oklahoma election results: 2024 presidential primary election

Primary voters are often a party's most dedicated loyalists, and Trump's brand of politics has created a hardcore base of voters who have stuck with him for the past eight years. But Trump's political movement isn't universally accepted within the Republican Party, a fact that led to multiple primary challengers in the early days of the race.

Trump's most prominent GOP opponent still campaigning is Haley – the former governor and diplomat who got just 40% of the vote in her home state.

In the Sooner state, the 2024 election is shaping up differently than past elections. Leading up to the 2016 contest, several candidates made visits to Oklahoma and had local surrogates to spread their message. Eight years ago this week, Donald Trump visited the Cox Convention Center, Ted Cruz campaigned in Tulsa and Marco Rubio made a stop in Oklahoma City.

This time around, however, candidates focused their efforts elsewhere. The only Republican who visited Oklahoma for a public campaign rally was Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who was joined by Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt inside a sweltering hot event barn near Tulsa eight months ago.
