Fire put out after explosion erupts at Bowling Green fuel station. No injuries reported.

Emergency responders in Bowling Green scrambled to put out a fire and close off nearby roads following a large explosion at a fuel site Monday, according to a report from the Bowling Green Daily News.

Around 3:50 p.m., officials from the Bowling Green Fire Department said in a Facebook post they were responding to a fire on Raven Avenue near Veterans Memorial Boulevard, just outside downtown Bowling Green.

The explosion occured at a Comfuel location, according to the Daily News.

A spokesperson with the fire department told the Daily News there were no reported injuries and officials were not aware if there was anyone inside the building at the time of the explosion. Firefighters were working to control the fire and a hazardous materials team was trying to prevent fuel from running off into storm drains. The initial call about a fire at the site came in at 3:27 p.m., according to the report.

At 6:35 p.m., the fire was under control, the fire department wrote on Facebook. Crews remained at the scene to monitor potential hot spots.

The Bowling Green Police Department closed off Veterans Memorial Lane between Church and Gordon avenues and has asked the public to avoid the area. Church and Clay streets were closed, but later reopened, according to the police department's Facebook page.

At least one school was evacuated during the incident, according to a report from WNKY-TV.
