Remarkable Women: Gisele Haralson works to inspire women, kids

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — If she’s not on the air doing a podcast, she’s directing documentaries and music videos. As a remarkable woman, she has shied away from the spotlight but loves being behind the camera.

Gisele Haralson is a multi-faceted woman in Baton Rouge who can do it all.

“I came out of the pandemic with a documentary, a completed book and a music video,” said Haralson.

Haralson loves every aspect of the arts. She directed a documentary called “Who Said You Can’t: African American Women in Science.” Through the film, she wanted to inspire kids by showing them they could be anything they put their minds to.

“It allows young people to understand and realize that if others have done it, they also can do it,” she explained.

Motivating young people is also her passion. Her nonprofit, the Child Development Institute, holds workshops to help kids discover their artistic side.

“It’s an organization where we utilize the arts as a way for young people to express themselves,” Haralson explained.

Haralson likes to empower women when she’s not inspiring kids. She holds an event each year called “Celebrate Women.” Part of the proceeds are put towards a nonprofit organization.

“I wanted to show and have a space where we as women can all come together, that we can pour words of encouragement into each other,” said Haralson.

Haralson also writes. She’s an author!

This remarkable woman’s story doesn’t have an ending yet. Gisele Haralson will always find a place behind the camera.

“I tell stories. I love putting wonderful talent together. Art is one of those areas where once you venture into it, nothing is ever the same,” she explained.
