Rapides Sheriff's Office: Teen who pointed firearm at Tioga High student arrested

A 17-year-old Tioga High School student was arrested Friday after reportedly waving a gun at another student in the parking lot, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office.

The incident was reported to the school's resource officer about 8:46 a.m. by the student who was threatened, reads a news release.

"According to initial reports, a student was sitting in their vehicle, and when another student passed the vehicle, the suspect pointed a handgun at the student," it reads.

Ryan Lee Reynolds Jr. was taken into custody, and then deputies and detectives found a firearm in Reynolds' vehicle. He was arrested and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center #1 on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and carrying a firearm on school property.

Bail has not been set yet, and Reynolds remains in jail.

Reynolds' arrest came just hours after a new law went into effect, reversing a 2017 law that kept the cases of 17-year-olds charged with crimes in the juvenile justice system, ensuring that their names would not be made public.
