‘Race to help save lives with the Red Cross’: Donation opportunities in Georgia through May

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The American Red Cross of Georgia is advising eligible donors to give blood in the coming weeks.

All blood types are welcomed, but Red Cross says type O donors are especially encouraged to donate.

These qualifications may make someone eligible to donate:

  • “Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law)

  • Weigh at least 110 pounds

  • Generally good health may be eligible to donate blood

  • High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements“
