Power outage causes WETM to temporarily go off air

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — 18 News is currently off the air for Spectrum, DirecTV, Dish, and Blue Ridge Cable customers due to a power outage at the transmitter site caused by a lightning strike. NYSEG estimates that power will be restored at about 11 p.m. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

According to the NYSEG outage map, the outage impacting WETM’s transmitter site is also affecting more than 250 NYSEG customers in Elmira and Big Flats.

Empire Access customers were not affected by the interrupted service due to the service provider using a fiber feed.
