One injured in River Road collision

Apr. 16—A Wampum man was injured and a New Castle woman was unharmed in a two-vehicle collision Saturday in Wayne Township.

State police reported that a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Nicole L. Householder, 27, was northbound on River Road at about 5 p.m. near the North County National Scenic Trail. A Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Jack R. Hall Jr., 59, of Wampum, was traveling north in front of Householder's car and she decided to pass him at about 50 mph. She told police she didn't know what happened, but ended up on the west side of the road with the back end of Hall's vehicle almost in the river, the police report said.

Police said Householder's car hit Hall's truck, causing it to scale an embankment for 20 yards before it hit a utility pole and was upended onto the driver's side.

Emergency responders had to remove Hall's windshield to get him out of his vehicle, the report said. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital for suspected minor injuries. Householder refused medical treatment, police reported.

The Ellwood City Fire Department, the Wampum and Chewton Volunteer fire departments and the New Castle police assisted at the scene.

Both vehicles were towed.
