Oklahoma lights up blue for Child Abuse Prevention Month

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and The CARE Center in OKC is coordinating its “ Paint the Town Blue ” campaign.

Paint the Town Blue is a state-wide initiative to bring light and shine it bright on the prevention of child abuse. Businesses, landmarks, and communities across Oklahoma will light up blue which is a symbol for the joint fight against child abuse.

Notable Oklahoma landmarks and businesses included in illuminating blue is the Skydance Bridge, BOK Center, Skirvin Hotel, La Brasa, Crystal Bridge, PakEnergy, CASA, and OMNI Hotel.

By doing this not only does it raise more awareness but it also shows the support to children and families that have been affected.

“The Paint the Town Blue campaign is a vibrant symbol of our collective commitment to combat child abuse,” said Stacy McNeiland, CEO of The CARE Center.

“As we recognize Child Abuse Awareness Month, we’re looking forward to seeing the Oklahoma City skyline glow in blue. We invite everyone to stay engaged through our social media channels, where we’ll highlight our partnerships and the incredible community support that’s turning OKC blue.”

Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity breaks ground for affordable housing in Oklahoma City

As the campaign expands more through digital platforms, over 40 local organizations are collaborating on social media to spread the message more beyond.

It is encouraged to show support through social media by wearing blue throughout April and to share support and moments by using the hashtag, #PaintTheTownBlue2024 .

Local favorites such as Hurts Donuts and Pops will also be offering blue themed treats in support of the cause.

Paint the Town Blue is more than just a campaign that spreads awareness on child abuse but it is rather a call to action in support to end child abuse altogether.
