Teen arrested after downtown attack posted online

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old was arrested in a group attack in downtown Memphis after one of the attackers filmed the incident on his phone and posted it online, police say.

Police said two males were walking near Gayoso Avenue and Hernando Street on Saturday, April 13, when they were jumped and beaten by at least four individuals.

They said the video showed one suspect holding a black-colored semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine in his left hand, while recording the attack with a cell phone in his other hand.

After the attack, the victims ran to their area of 70 S. Fourth Street for help. Police said both refused medical attention.

Investigators haven’t said where they got the video, but said a Trezevant High School teacher identified Deunte Payton Perry as one of the attackers.

Payton Perry is charged with two counts of aggravated assault acting in concert. His bond was set at $2,500.
