MPD: Man breaks into ex-girlfriend’s house and assaults her, steals television

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested on Friday after police say he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house, assaulted her and stole her television.

Darius Henderson, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault and aggravated burglary following the April incident.

On April 7, officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Mimosa Avenue around 5:15 p.m.

When they arrived, they spoke with a victim who said that she’d found her ex-boyfriend/child’s father, later identified as Darius Henderson, inside her residence when she and her daughter arrived home.

The victim told officers that Henderson gained entry into her home through a bedroom window and hid there until he heard her come inside.

She stated that she was frightened by Henderson, who allegedly grabbed her by her throat and began demanding money as he struck her several times.

The victim then said that Henderson then grabbed a television in the home and attempted to leave with it. When she tried to stop him, she said he assaulted her again, struck her down to the ground, pointed a black handgun at her and cocked it.

Henderson allegedly fled the scene and dropped the weapon, leaving it on the ground where arriving officers were able to gather it as evidence.

The police reports state that considering the history between the two parties where Henderson was the primary aggressor, injuries to the victim, statements provided by the victim and reporting officers and the likelihood that the abuse would continue, police felt they had enough probable cause to arrest Henderson.
