  Based on surveys of thousands of new- and used-vehicle owners, J.D. Power collects information related to vehicle dependability and quality. From this data, the company calculates predicted reliability Power Circle Ratings that rate models according to their likelihood to provide long-term quality. They are listed below, in alphabetical order.
  
  When referencing the information, keep in mind that each rating is comparable across vehicle segments, and not between segments. Also, for new nameplates, J.D. Power examines all vehicles sold by the brand in order to create a reliability prediction for the new model.

• 2017 BMW 3 Series

  BMW’s most popular model is the 3 Series, which is offered as a sedan, station wagon, and a 5-door hatchback called the Gran Turismo. For the 2017 model year, new turbocharged 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines debut, minor styling and trim upgrades are made, and a new version of the iDrive infotainment system is installed. The performance-tuned M3 sedan gains a standard adaptive damping suspension.

• 2017 Lexus ES

  Based on the Toyota Avalon platform, the plush Lexus ES is a large car carrying an entry-luxury price tag. Offered with a choice between the V-6 engine and a gas-electric drivetrain, the Lexus ES adds a long list of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems as standard equipment for 2017, as well as a connected navigation app.
  
  The 2017 ES receives an overall predicted reliability Power Circle Rating of 5 out of 5.

• 2017 Lexus GS

  Though similar in size to the Lexus ES, the Lexus GS is a rear-drive vehicle that is available with optional all-wheel drive. Turbocharged 4-cylinder, V-6, and gas-electric hybrid drivetrains are offered, and Lexus also sells a high-performance GS F variant with a V-8 engine. For 2017, numerous driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems become standard, and the GS F gains a standard adaptive suspension.

• 2017 Lexus LS

  One of the oldest flagship luxury sedans on the market, the Lexus LS is available in regular- and extended-length wheelbases, with a V-8 engine or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain, and with rear- or all-wheel drive. An F Sport version aims to give the LS a sportier appearance and improved driving dynamics. In its final year before a complete—and overdue—redesign, the Lexus LS is unchanged.
  
  The 2017 LS receives an overall predicted reliability Power Circle Rating of 5 out of 5.

• 2017 Lincoln Continental

  Lincoln’s rebooted Continental, a midsize luxury car that serves as the company’s flagship model, makes the reliability list on the strength of overall performance of all Lincoln models over time. Distinguished by hidden door handles and Bentley-esque styling, the Continental introduced a new look that will expand to all Lincoln models. The Continental is offered with front-wheel or all-wheel drive and a choice between a V-6 engine and two, twin-turbocharged V-6 engines.
  
  The 2017 Continental receives an overall predicted reliability Power Circle Rating of 4 out of 5.

• 2017 Lincoln MKZ

  Lincoln’s MKZ is nearly as large as the Continental, but doesn’t cost as much. Available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive, the MKZ can be fitted with a turbocharged 4-cylinder, twin-turbocharged 6-cylinder, or a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain. Wearing the new Lincoln face introduced on the Continental, the MKZ received a thorough refresh for the 2017 model year.

• 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class

  The least expensive Mercedes-Benz model aside from the Metris commercial van, the CLA-Class is a sedan with a swept-back roofline, allowing the company to characterize the car as a coupe. Offered with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in standard and AMG performance states of tune, the CLA-Class comes with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. For 2017, the CLA-Class received a freshening that included styling updates as well as new technologies.

• 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

  Similar to the CLA-Class, the CLS-Class is a sedan that is marketed as a coupe. Mercedes-Benz sells the car with a V-6 or a V-8 engine and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. An AMG-tuned version called the AMG CLS63 is also available, equipped with a hand-built V-8 engine. This year, the CLS400 model gets a new 9-speed automatic transmission.
