MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Mooresville leaders are pursuing purchasing land that’s been marred by a sinkhole.

In a specially called meeting Wednesday, Mayor Chris Carney said the town is taking steps to acquire the property at 190 W. Plaza Drive. It was once home to a Tire Masters, next to the Randy Marion Chevrolet dealership.

“The Town is taking a leadership position on this critical issue. In order to apply for and receive applicable state and federal assistance, the Town is negotiating with the property owners to purchase the property as a necessary first step to clean up the site,” he said.

According to real estate records, the nearly 1-acre property has been owned by Christopher Medford since 1999. As of Jan. 1, it was valued at $855,380.

Carney said that the town has hired a third-party group to test the stream water, a process that is underway. Lake Norman supplies the town’s drinking water, which is routinely monitored for contaminants set forth by state and federal guidelines.

There will be press conference Thursday on the topic at Town Hall.
