Meyersdale man pulls gun, threatens residents, police say

MEYERSDALE, Pa. – A Meyersdale man was jailed Wednesday, accused of running around the borough threatening people with a handgun, state police in Somerset said.

Troopers charged Scott A. Herring Sr., 57, of the 100 block of Large Street, with terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.

According to a complaint affidavit, troopers were dispatched to the area of Large Street around 11 p.m. Tuesday after receiving multiple reports of a man on private property waving a handgun “aggressively” and threatening residents.

One resident reportedly captured video of Herring carrying a handgun and yelling about “guns and ammo,” the affidavit said.

A second resident said she was walking her dog when a man allegedly raised his arm as if pointing a gun and said, “I’ll shoot you,” the affidavit said.

Troopers said they found Herring inside a Large Street apartment. A woman opened the door, but Herring allegedly slammed the door shut and locked it.

The woman allegedly told troopers that Herring had been paranoid for days, believing he was being followed.

The state police Special Emergency Response Team was dispatched.

Herring was arraigned by on-call District Judge Scott Walker, of Somerset, and sent to Somerset County Jail after failing to post $25,00 bond.
