Memorial Day speaker announced for Rose Hill ceremony

May 21—CAMANCHE — The Camanche Memorial Day Ceremony Committee, the Camanche Kiwanis, and the VFW-Tallman Lewis Post 9664 have announced that United States Air Force Veteran Sgt. Anthony Barker will speak at this year's Memorial Day Ceremony at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Barker has flown almost 100 combat missions supporting troops on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is the grandson of Joyce Parsons of Camanche.

The public is invited to attend this traditional Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m., Monday, May 27, in Rose Hill Cemetery. Those planning on attending are reminded to bring lawn chairs as seating will be limited. In the event of rain, the event will move to the Camanche High School Gym.

This program is a tribute to veterans laid to rest both here and elsewhere. Jen Meyers will direct vocal and band arrangements by the Camanche High School Band and Choir.

Delaney Grant will recite the "Gettysburg Address."

Chayten Epping will recite "Another Vet is Gone."

Kahlen John will recite the Johnny Cash's "Ragged Old Flag."

As part of the Camanche Memorial Day weekend, organizers proudly fly over 150 Memorial American Flags. These casket-size flags once covered the remains of deceased veterans and are proudly donated from the families of local and Camanche veterans.

This year the flags will be hoisted at 7 a.m. Saturday May 25, at Rose Hill. The public is invited. Flags will be flown until Monday, May 27, weather permitting.
