MCSO investigating multiple possible overdoses at Elmwood residence

Apr. 24—The Madison County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating three deaths that occurred at the same residence in Richmond.

According to Chief Deputy Tony Terry, deputies were dispatched to Elmwood Drive to assist Madison County EMS just before 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

At that point, 47-year-old Sherry Hammerle and 39-year-old Evonne Hammerle, both of Richmond, were transported to Baptist Health Richmond where they were pronounced deceased.

Ben Masters was also found deceased inside the same residence at Elmwood Drive.

While Terry acknowledged that three deaths in the same residence at the same time was "unusual," he assured that the Sheriff's Office is investigating all leads.

The preliminary investigation, which he noted is still pending a toxicology report, has led deputies to believe that the deaths are likely overdoses.

Madison County Sheriff's Office Detective Josh Horn and Madison County Sheriff's Office Investigations are handling the investigation.
