McDuffie Co. Animal Shelter to reopen fully Saturday

McDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – McDuffie County Animal Services will have a grand reopening this Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be food vendors at the shelter reopening ceremony located at 802 White Oak Road.

In celebration, there will be free on-site microchipping.

This comes after former Director Micayla McClain was put on administrative leave following child cruelty charges in November 2023. She only served in an official capacity as the director for a little more than a month before her arrest and eventually vacating the position..

In December 2023, the county moved forward with the hiring of a new position at the animal shelter, an Animal Services Facility Manager, a position suggested by McClain before her departure from the directorship. Catherine Bohler was hired as the Facility Manager and in-person adoptions were possible through appointment only.

All drop-offs ceased at that time.

Now, according to a spokesperson for the McDuffie County government, the county is choosing to move forward with the reopening of the shelter under Bohler’s management.

The director’s position has yet to be filled.
