Man shot in midtown parking deck after confronting suspects breaking into his car, APD says

Police are searching for two suspects after officials say they shot a man while trying to steal his car.

Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News that just before 12:30 a.m. Friday, officers received reports of a person shot at the Dagny Midtown apartment complex on Juniper Street NE.

When officers arrived, they found one man who had been shot in the complex’s parking deck He was taken to the hospital, where he is stable.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

According to the investigation, the victim was walking to his car in the building’s parking garage when he caught two men breaking into his car around 12:30 a.m.. When he went to confront the suspects, he was shot.

No one has been taken into custody.

Channel 2′s Tom Regan was on Juniper Street Friday, where people who live in the apartment building said they are worried about their safety. They said they didn’t even know about the shooting until Regan told them.

“It’s really scary,” Tristan Kidwell said. “I live here, and I’ve always felt safe walking around the neighborhood. I love the building. I love the neighborhood. It’s just not something you would expect to happen where you live.”

The Dagny Midtown is not cheap to live at. Rental rates posted online listed a studio apartment for more than $2,000 a month.

Carmen Dowell has lived at the complex for more than a year and said management should consider stepping up security in the parking garage.

“It’s dangerous,” Dowell said. “I feel like they need to do something.”

The shooting remains under investigation.
