Man convicted in ‘Kaz’ murder trial

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A jury has convicted a man today for the murder of beloved community member Curshawn ‘Kaz’ Terrell.

Anthony Anderson was convicted of 1st-degree murder and 1st-degree felony murder and will be sentenced Wednesday, June 3, 2024, before Circuit Judge James Jamo.

The community continues to remember Terrell, better known as ‘Kaz,’ as a music producer who would be ‘one of a kind.’

Around 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, 2022, the Lansing Township Police Department responded to a recording studio on the 2000 block of E. Michigan Ave. where Police said they found both ‘Kaz’ and another man, Shaquille Brown, who also suffered from at least one gunshot wound. Kaz died soon after at the hospital.

Officials say the offender was also convicted of the following:

  • Assault with intent to commit murder

  • Felon in possession of a firearm

  • Felony firearm

Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane, who filed charges and handled this case in court, said in a news release, “This was a brutal and senseless crime, and the death of Mr. Terrell was a great loss for our community. He was beloved, respected, and is missed by all.”

“I believe the jury made the right decision in this matter. First-degree murder is the most heinous of all offenses and I believe the impending sentence reflects this,” said Dewane.
