Man charged in rape of Annandale employee linked to other crime, Fairfax County police say

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said a man charged in the rape of an employee at a business in Annandale may be connected to other similar crimes.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said Kevin Lopez-Altan, 24, of Annandale, faces a number of charges related to the attack that took place on March 20.

Investigators said Lopez-Altan went to a business near Marr Drive and tried to walk into it. He was not allowed to enter. Police said Lopez-Altan made another failed attempt, then forced his way into the business on his third try. That’s when he’s accused of assaulting the employee, physically and sexually. The employee was able to escape, and she called 911.

On Friday, March 22, detectives found out that the Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) Police Department was investigating a sexual assault attempt and that NVCC police officers identified Lopez-Altan as the person involved. The NVCC police department obtained warrants for Attempted Rape and Abduction with Intent to Defile.

Detectives found Lopez-Altan Friday afternoon and, with the help of Mason patrol officers, took him into custody.

On Saturday, FCPD detectives charged Lopez-Altan with a total 10 felony charges:

  • Rape (3 counts)

  • Forcible Sodomy (3 counts)

  • Object Sexual Penetration

  • Abduction with Intent to Defile

  • Burglary

  • Strangulation

As of Monday, Lopez-Altan was being held without bond.
