Local auto repair shop opens submissions for free car

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Are you or someone you know in need of transportation? Thanks to an anonymous donor, Mikey’s Total Car Care, an auto repair and maintenance shop in Cimarron Hills, is giving away a free car to someone in need and is taking submissions online now.

The shop’s Owner Michael Chavez told FOX21 on Tuesday, March 26 that originally they were only going to keep submissions open until the end of March, but added that the timeline could be extended.

According to Chavez, to be considered, people should go online first and enter the email nomination. Once on the website, people will see a few questions they need to address in their email and can also provide any additional information that may help Mikey’s Total Car Care in making its decision.

The vehicle that was donated is a 2004 Honda Civic EX, which Chavez said the shop is working on, to ensure it is safe to drive.

On the website, the following was addressed regarding the repairs:

“It will need some TLC, Mikey’s will be doing limited reconditioning to get this vehicle safe and drivable so that then, we can donate to a person in need. This vehicle is high mileage but will be in good working order when donated.”

Mikey’s Total Car Care has been around since 2017 and is located at 6180 Lake Shore Court, just south of the North Powers Boulevard and Constitution Avenue intersection.
