Lewiston approves 30-year Niagara Falls Storage Site agreement with U.S. Army

Apr. 24—The Lewiston Town Board approved a new 30-year agreement with the U.S. Army allowing it a right-of-entry to the Niagara Falls Storage Site.

The previous agreement expired on Dec. 1, 2023. It had been in place since Dec. 10, 2003.

Town Supervisor Steve Broderick said that this would allow the Army Corps of Engineers to collect air samples at the Pletcher Road site. It does not have to do with the Army Corps' current remediation plans of removing the radioactive materials stored there.

The measure was going to be approved at the board's work session earlier this month, but they decided to table it for further review and discussion with the Army Corps.
