Letter: Diversity, equity and inclusion? Not in Alabama

Let's get to the heart of the matter: Diversity, equity and inclusion are why Governor Kay Ivey is where she is today. Had it not been for her desire to succeed as a woman in politics, her hard work and need to push forward, where would she be if she had not been "included" in that "Old Boys Club" known as Alabama politics?

Sadly, she is now a puppet for these same people who pushed her forward, but will now cut others (Black and brown) off from the same advantages.

Secondary schools, colleges and universities and businesses are now faced with losing quality scholars, athletes and massive funding through grants, state and federal monies for these programs, all under the guise of hidden racism and misogyny. If the playing field is to be leveled so that everyone has a fair chance to compete, then these offices are necessary. Your silence is not an option. All it takes for evil to succeed, is for good men and women to do nothing. (MLK)

Fair Warning: Remember the poem First They Came by Pastor Martin Niemöller

First they came for the CommunistsAnd I did not speak outBecause I was not a CommunistThen they came for the SocialistsAnd I did not speak outBecause I was not a SocialistThen they came for the trade unionistsAnd I did not speak outBecause I was not a trade unionistThen they came for the JewsAnd I did not speak outBecause I was not a JewThen they came for meAnd there was no one leftTo speak out for me

Note: Every year companies in the US spend around $8 billion on DEI efforts, according to research by the consulting firm McKinsey. With all the financial investment, time and attention put into advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in corporations, it is crucial to understand who benefits from these efforts.

Have a blessed day and think about the impact of the loss of your coworkers of all colors and genders today.
