LAKELAND — As Lakeland contractors get to work on some much-needed road repairs and resurfacing, traffic will be redirected around certain roads.

Drivers can help avoid traffic jams by being aware of the city's upcoming road projects. Delays can be expected. Vehicular traffic will be limited during daytime hours while the contractors are working. There will be traffic control signs and flagmen put in place to assist motorists, according to the city's release.

Easton Street

Starting Monday, the city contractors will begin work on Easton Drive, from Cambridge Avenue east one block to Fairmont Avenue. All through traffic will be detoured onto Lake Hollingsworth Drive while work is being performed, with one lane left open for residents to access their homes. Depending on the destination, Edgewood Drive would as another alternate route.The road work is to address a recurring drainage problem that's causing the brick street to get washed out during heavy rain events, according to city spokesperson Kevin Cook. It is expected to take up to four weeks.

East Orange St & East Main Street

Starting May 1, city contractors will begin the process of resurfacing Orange Street and East Main Street from South Lake Avenue east to Bartow Road.

The contractor's work will begin with prepping the roadway by milling down the asphalt and repaving it by May 3. For roughly three days, the road will be closed to through traffic and a detour will be in place, with exception for local residents and businesses. Flaggers will be in put in place to help with vehicular movements.
