Kenya floods force thousands to flee

STORY: The floods have caused widespread damage and displacement, with over 11,000 households affected so far, according to the Kenyan Red Cross. Authorities are scrambling to provide relief and assistance to those impacted.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains are forecast to continue, urging those living in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground.

Scientists have linked the extreme rainfall to a climate phenomenon known as a positive Indian Ocean Dipole, resulting in higher-than-normal temperatures in the western Indian Ocean near East Africa.
