KCSO deputies help stranded couple get vehicle unstuck from Piute Mountain

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to help two people after their vehicle got stuck atop Piute Mountain on Tuesday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

On May 21, around 9:20 a.m., the woman called 911 to report their vehicle was stuck 8,000 feet up the mountain south of Lake Isabella and couldn’t make their way back down. KCSO deputies were dispatched along with KCSO’s AIR2 helicopter support and located the stranded couple around 9:45 a.m.

Due to the steep altitude AIR2 landed close by the and two crew members hiked toward the stranded couple. Rescue crews managed to help the couple get their vehicle unstuck and they were able ride the vehicle back down the Piute Mountain, the office said through a news release.

KCSO would like to remind the public to pack supplies and appropriate equipment when off-roading, as well as, keeping cell phones charged when venturing to remote areas of Kern.
