Weeks after several Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, suffered an outage, Instagram is back up for most users after thousands reported that the social media app was down Thursday evening in a separate outage.

According to Downdetector, outages peaked at 8:19 p.m., with 6,119 users reporting problems. User reports of outages fell overnight to around 100 at 5 a.m., but have been slowly climbing since. The most recent information shows 495 reported outages at around 9:30 a.m. Friday. Downdetector relies on user reports and problem indicators from around the web to monitor website outages.

Internet search queries show people asking why the app was randomly logging them out.

Instagram and Facebook had an outage for more than two hours early in March that was caused by a technical issue, with more than 550,000 reports of disruptions for Facebook and about 92,000 for Instagram at its peak. Meta, which owns Instagram, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
