Good Samaritan helps La Vergne officer in pursuit of wanted woman

LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The La Vergne Police Department is praising one good Samaritan for his “heroic actions” during a pursuit.

On Monday, April 15 around 8:30 a.m., an officer with the La Vergne Police Department reportedly recognized a woman with several warrants out for her arrest, sitting in a parking spot. When the officer went up to her, the officer said she drove off.

Witness James Snyder said he saw her drive into oncoming traffic along Waldron Road and hit several other vehicles before jumping out of her car and running to the on-ramp of Interstate 24.

The officer said he ran after her, but hurt his leg in the process. Snyder then pulled up next to the officer and told him to get in the car.

“It was my adrenaline and want to help out,” said Snyder. “I wouldn’t want somebody to hit my car and get away with it. “

The two drove up to the running woman.

“After we caught up with her, she just gave up,” said Snyder.

The officer reportedly was able to get out of Snyder’s vehicle and arrest the woman.

“We caution citizens from getting involved in active pursuits, but this person went out of their way to help our officer and get this suspect into custody,” says Chief Chris Moews in a statement. “It is because of their heroic actions that this person is behind bars today.”

“I really try to live by helping out others when I can,” said Snyder.

He encourages others to do the same.
