Freiburg have extended the contract with midfielder Maximilian Eggestein, the Bundesliga club said on Monday, but didn't disclose any details such as the length of the deal.

"He's an excellent fit for Freiburg, both on a sporting and personal level, and has made a significant contribution to our positive development in recent years," sporting director Klemens Hartenbach said.

Eggestein moved to Freiburg in 2021 from Werder Bremen and has played 116 games since. Before the start of the season, he was named deputy team captain.

"I've been here for almost three years and it actually feels longer - that shows that I'm in the right place here at Freiburg. We're on a good path and I'm looking forward to the next years in Freiburg," Eggestein said.
