Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is confident she will see a woman president in her lifetime.

“I think the American people are way ahead,” the California Democrat said in an interview with RTÉ News on Wednesday. “I never thought there would be a woman [House] Speaker before there would be a woman president, because of what the Congress is. It's not a glass ceiling; it's a marble ceiling.”

Pelosi, who’s 84, was first elected as U.S. House Speaker in 2007. She was the first woman to serve in the role and the first woman to lead a major political party in either chamber of Congress.

“I don't want anybody to vote for me because I'm a woman,” Pelosi continued. “I don't want anybody to vote against me because I'm a woman.”

In the same interview with RTÉ News, Pelosi made headlines for calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign. She also said that some pro-Palestinian protests, especially those against President Biden, have “a Russian tinge to it.”
