Fond du Lac to hold bulky waste lottery. Here's how to participate.

FOND DU LAC — The City of Fond du Lac will offer a curbside bulky waste lottery program in May.

The Municipal Service Center will offer the lottery to 50 residents — at no charge — who have their garbage pickup serviced by the city (no apartments or commercial buildings).

To participate, residents must complete the lottery form online at https:// arcg.is/f5WHv. The residents chosen will be limited to one bulky item or five bags of garbage picked up at no cost. Electronics (including TVs) or hazardous waste are not eligible. Freon items will be charged at $25 and tires at $10.

The lottery form will be closed after the 50 residents have been selected. The winners will be contacted to confirm their address and bulky item, along with the scheduling date. For more information, call 920-322-3544.

Amanda Fryman named 2024 Distinguished Alumna at Moraine Park Technical College

Amanda Fryman, Oakfield, has been named the 2024 Distinguished Alumna at Moraine Park Technical College. She will accept the award at the May 9 student awards banquet.

Fryman began working at a local financial institution where she was an apprentice immediately after graduating from Laconia High in 2003. While working, she took part-time night classes, eventually graduating from Moraine Park’s Supervisory Management program in 2011.

Fryman is now employed with National Exchange Bank & Trust as vice president of commercial loan operations. She supports MPTC by serving on the Foundation Board and the Business Management/Small Business Entrepreneurship and Financial and Insurance Specialist advisory committees. She also was the Alumni Speaker at MPTC’s 2023 Winter Commencement.

Red Cross holds local drives to keep blood supply steady

American Red Cross asks local residents to continue donating to keep the blood supply at a consistent level.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required. Individuals 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in general good health may be eligible to donate blood. Donors younger than 18 also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Upcoming blood drives:

• April 30: Noon to 5 p.m., Radisson Hotel and Conference Center, 625 W. Rolling Meadows Drive, Fond du Lac;

• May 1: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Church of Peace, 158 S. Military Road, Fond du Lac;

• May 3: 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Oakfield Community Center, 130 N. Main St., Oakfield; and

• May 7: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Moraine Park Technical College, 235 N. National Ave., Fond du Lac.

Student recital set for April 30 at Ripon College

Several student performers, nominated by faculty, will participate in a Ripon College student recital April 30.

The concert will begin at 4:15 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Democratic Party will hold monthly meeting May 2

The Democratic Party of Fond du Lac County will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. May 2. It will be held in person at Fond du Lac County Labor Hall, 50 E. Bank St., and also will be available online.

The program will have Kat Griffith presenting “Bringin’ It Home — Immigration Issues on the Border.” Questions are welcome.

Griffith has lived and worked in Latin America for many years, several as a Spanish-English interpreter for immigrants and asylum seekers. She has been active on immigration policy since the 1980s and is currently a Fond du Lac County Board supervisor in Ripon.

Dr. Salter joins urology department at Fond du Lac clinic

Dr. Erin Salter, board-certified urologist, is now accepting patients at the SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic.

A news release states that Dr. Salter specializes in diagnosing and treating health concerns including male and female urinary dysfunction, urologic cancers (kidney/bladder/prostate), and female pelvic organ prolapse.

Dr. Salter is a graduate of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, and did her urology residency at the Albany Medical Center. She is a member of the American Urologic Association.

Renovations and additions get under way at Laconia schools

Rosendale-Brandon School District held a groundbreaking ceremony April 16 as construction of the Laconia Middle School and High School renovations and additions get underway.

Principals Leanne Greff and Diane Raue, and eight student representatives in grades four to 11 kicked off the symbolic turning of the dirt, followed by school board members, project manager, architect and school administrators.

The expansion is intended to accommodate middle and high school students. Construction will be phased, starting with a new cafeteria and a classroom addition. Other work will include secure front entry, office space, gym and locker room additions, renovations to existing areas, building-wide maintenance, additional parking, and improved traffic flow.
