The Ford Mustang has been a ripe canvas for customization since the very beginning of its history. So it’s always a mainstay at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, and this year is no exception. Ford is rolling out five tuner versions of the pony car, some of which are cool while others . . . well, aren't.

This Mustang GT shown above incorporates a Roush supercharger for more power and Ford Performance chassis bits such as springs and shocks-but the real story is the wide-body kit and the myriad tacked-on aero bits. The front splitter, rear spoiler, and various other components supposedly increase downforce, while the purple-and-black color scheme is unabashedly just for show.

Optimized for drifting, this so-called Smoke Show Mustang has a somewhat subdued gray paint job and copper accents. Extra power is supplied by a supercharger, while suspension modifications and a hydraulic handbrake mean it's purpose built to destroy rear tires and create lots of smoke.

These modifications are said to be "tasteful," and the illustration does look a bit cleaner than some of the other overwrought Mustangs. All manner of exterior lighting is on board, while a comprehensive brake upgrade includes bigger rotors and six-piston Brembo calipers. It's supercharged, too, and has Nappa leather inside.

As the only one of these Mustangs that uses the four-cylinder EcoBoost model as its base, this car attempts to make up for its deficiencies in the engine department with an extroverted exterior. You can't miss the purple color scheme and body kit, while an air suspension lets you slam the car to the ground. There’s also a different turbocharger on board to give the 2.3-liter four-cylinder at least some extra grunt.

The two-tone blue-and-gray paint scheme seems to aim for a sort of retro appeal, and it works pretty well with the attractive wheels and the decently subdued body kit. This tuner also nixed the rear seat and added a more aggressive exhaust, while the chassis supposedly benefits from new springs and upgraded brakes.
