Fatal standoff in south St. Louis after woman’s body found on porch

ST. LOUIS – Two people are dead after a domestic violence incident that escalated into a shooting and subsequent police standoff. The tragic event unfolded late last night near Hartford and Bent, just south of Tower Grove Park.

According to police, the situation began just after 9:20 p.m. when they received a call about a shooting at the 4200 block of Hartford. Upon arrival, officers discovered Elizabeth Colletta dead on the porch of a home. She was 55.

Authorities believe that Walter Young, who was inside the house and refused to come out, shot Colletta.

As police were attending to Colletta, Young reportedly opened fire on them from inside the house, prompting an immediate response from the officers and leading to a standoff. The SWAT team was called to the scene, and after hours of tension, they deployed gas into the home around 11 p.m.

The SWAT team then entered the home and found Young dead. It remains unclear whether his death was a result of suicide or if he was killed during the shootout with police. Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the incident.
