Fast & Furious' upcoming eleventh movie has been given a disappointing filming update by star Tyrese Gibson.

The film, which acts as a second part to last year's Fast X, is slated to be released in April 2025 – though Gibson has admitted that filming is not likely to begin until early 2025, meaning the movie will almost definitely be pushed back.

"Because of the strike, both strikes, there were some real delays in writing and kind of getting the film up on its feet," the Roman Pearce actor told CBR, referencing last year's Hollywood strikes.

"I'm hearing that we're going to get it going right in 2025, right at the top of the year," Gibson added.

"I think right now the pressure is to elevate the movie and take the film to some other levels. As you've seen, Gal Gadot and The Rock are back, which is exciting."

The likely delay comes after star Jason Momoa (Dante Reyes) revealed earlier this year that he was yet to see the sequel's script.

"I put out my ideas and we'll see where it goes. But that's probably a ways off," he told Variety. "That'll be fun to do. It's fun playing the villain. It's wonderful to play the villain."

Meanwhile, during his new interview, Gibson suggested that the eleventh movie will hone in more on the car racing element that began the franchise in the first place.

"I know that fans over the years have been wanting to kind of ground the film and get back to more of the street racing and get away from being in outer space and all the other stuff," he said.

"I think right now they're in the basement, they're riding, they're cooking, they're really trying to pull it together, to make sure that the fans can show up and really enjoy the film."

He continued: "I'm hearing they're listening to the fans and feedback and kind of what the fans want, and so I think it's going to be taking up a few more notches on the street racing stuff."

Fast X Part 2 is slated to be released in cinemas on April 4, 2025. Fast X is available to buy or rent from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more.
