EMS joins Lindbergh High School for life-saving trainings

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Teachers and staff at Lindbergh High School took part in training with first responders on what to do in life-threatening situations Friday.

According to Darick Day, battalion chief EMS training officer at Mehlville Fire Protection District, he and his team were invited to the school.

“They invited us to come and do some training with their staff to make sure they’re comfortable in recognizing like a life-threatening bleed and then being able to treat that in the immediate moments,” Day said.

Staff learned how to fill an open wound and stop the flow of blood. Kits with gauze and commercial tourniquets will be in every classroom.

“It’s nice to see the staff do it, so that I know if we have a problem, I have help,” Lynn Hilbert, school nurse at Lindbergh High School, said.

According to Day, these trainings are important as teachers are the first responders in some cases and will be the first on-scene to render care.
