DC police arrest 18-year-old for shots fired in Southeast neighborhood

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers arrested an 18-year-old man after shots were fired in a Southeast neighborhood early Monday morning.

Just after 2:20 a.m., MPD officers responded to the 1700 block of Independence Ave. SE for gunshots. Police said that nobody was hit, but officers did find evidence of a gun being fired.

Responding officers determined that the suspect fled into a nearby home. MPD’s Emergency Response Team helped at the scene, and officers stopped “multiple people” in that home.

Detectives arrested Amontae Moody of Southeast, D.C. and charged him with unlawful discharge of a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm.

MPD said that officers recovered a gun.
