Police have charged a man in connection with a stabbing in Shelton on Tuesday.

Christopher Graham, 38, of Shelton was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, first-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, carrying a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct, according to the Shelton Police Department.

The charges stem from an incident at a residence on Walnut Tree Hill Road around 7:45 p.m. when Graham, 33-year-old Sarah Graf and a 35-year-old woman were hanging out and an argument broke out. During the altercation, Graham allegedly assaulted the 35-year-old woman and strangled her before grabbing a knife and stabbing her, according to police.

Two teenagers were also at the residence but were not harmed, police said.

Graham then got into a vehicle and left.

Graf was later charged with interfering with a 911 call after police said she tried stopping one of two teenagers in the home from notifying authorities.

The victim suffered wounds not considered life-threatening and was evaluated by medics at the scene, police said.

According to police, investigators identified Graham as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. His vehicle was spotted Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

The vehicle was later located in Trumbull on Nichols Avenue in the area of Hawley Lane, according to police. Members of the Trumbull Police Department pulled the car over in the parking lot of Best Buy, at 100 Hawley Lane, and took Graham into custody.

He was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for self-inflicted injuries, police said. He was treated and released back into police custody.

Police said Graham was held on $500,000 bond and was expected to be arraigned Thursday in Derby Superior Court.
