Crescent City Connection to see lane closures until August

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Crescent City Connection Decorative Lighting Project is set to begin soon, causing recurring lane closures through August.

According to officials with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, work on the $21 million project is set to begin Tuesday, April 30 and will result in the closures of the westbound right lane of the main span and the Tchoupitoulas Street entrance ramp.

They add that the eastbound right lane closure will begin Thursday, May 2.

DOTD officials said they will provide a detour via the Magazine Street onramp but the Tchoupitoulas Street exit will remain open.

The project, designed by the Frischhertz Electric Co. of New Orleans, will consist of the installation of LED lights on the trusses and piers of the bridges, according to DOTD officials.

DOTYD officials say the first phase of closures is expected to conclude by July.

The second phase of the project will involve the closures of the west and eastbound span of the bridge, the entrance ramp from Tchoupitoulas Street and last until mid-August, according to DOTD officials.

Digital signage will be placed along the commute to alert drivers of real-time traffic updates.

DOTD officials said they expect the project to be finished by early 2025.
